DIY Shadow Box

One of my favorite things is the DIY Shadow Box. We have 2 - one for our pocket schedules and one for our game tickets. For the longest time, we kept them in zip lock baggies. We waited until Michael's had a special on shadow boxes. (We brought them when it was - buy one get one free or half off.)

We recently had to purchase a bigger one for our tickets. We go to a lot of sporting events - mostly baseball.

This pile is pretty huge. I love seeing the variety from team to team. It's also great to see different things because part of Gary's job is designing the ticket stubs each year. One of my favorites is from Big 12 Baseball Tournament at Bricktown Ballpark. They were credit card size.

Every game we always get a few pocket schedules. Some are really bulky and some have bare minimal information on it.

WEEK 20 - Something You Take For Granted

We are back for another week of the Gratitude Journey. Each week is a different topic to reflect on and make us more grateful.

THIS WEEK: Something You Take For Granted

Lately, I have been in a giant size funk. I wish I could explain what I need, but I can't which makes me feel more helpless. A feeling that I absolutely hate. I feel so paralyzed in everything decision and everything that I do. I know that I do have so much to be thankful for but right now it is difficult to see past my current pain.

I am reminded that I have all the basics in my life right now. I have a job. (I actually have several) I have an apartment. I have food. I have the basics, but still, my brain can't comprehend that. I hope I break this funk soon, because I have been felt like prisoner in my own body.

What is something you take for granted?

WEEK 19 - Favorite Part of My City

We are back for another week of the Gratitude Journey. Each week is a different topic to reflect on and make us more grateful.

THIS WEEK: Favorite Part of My City

My favorite part of Modesto is the Modesto Arch. According to Wiki, the Modesto Arch was built in 1912 with the towns the 2nd choice logo - Water. Wealth. Contentment. Health. The first choice that was rejected - Nobody's got Modesto's Goat.

I don't know I love it so much, but anytime we are in downtown Modesto I want to go by. It just brings a smile to my face.

What's your favorite place in your city?

The Contentment Challenge - Third Month - Round 2

If you are new to this space, I'm in the middle of my next round of The Contentment Challenge. Catch up with the posts below. Check out Preview, January 2019, February 2019.

UPDATE on FEBRUARY

Part of February was a big whole failure. I was just going through the motions of everything. I was just going from one job to another. Then in between a walk up call to myself and an accountability call I had with Danielle things started to shift. This month I didn't accomplish much on my to do list but I will say I got organized and started to put things in motion. So overall I feel good about the future.

WEEK 18 - TECHNOLOGY

We are back for another week of the Gratitude Journey. Each week is a different topic to reflect on and make us more grateful.

THIS WEEK: Technology

I am loving the new iPad pro that I got a few weeks ago. I use it every day. I use for my workouts to all be in one place. I love the size because it's big enough that I am not squinting at everything but not too big where it's a hassle to carry around like my laptop.

I will admit that it's a little weird with the face ID and no home button.

WEEK 17 - FRIEND

We are back for another week of the Gratitude Journey. Each week is a different topic to reflect on and make us more grateful.

THIS WEEK: Friend

Making friends as an adult is tough. It's even harder when you move around as much as we do. Making friends in the front office has been tough. When we were with one team it was next to impossible. I honestly felt like I was a true baseball wife. The wives and girlfriends knew so much about what was going in the front office like they worked there. We would go out to eat and mentioned how my husband missed the higher commission for that week. Wondering how upset I was.. honestly I wasn't because it would come full circle.

I feel like I have had the whole spectrum of the baseball wife life. I had the competitive side through the community side. I am so thankful I found Alysa from Our Baseball Life. (Formally WagsInRealLife) I have met so many great ladies who understand my situation and there for advice at any time.

Baseball and/or working in sports can be tough, but it doesn't need to be. These ladies are so uplifting and encouraging.

Who is a friend in your life you are grateful for?

WEEK 16 - OPPORTUNITY GIVEN

We are back for another week of the Gratitude Journey. Each week is a different topic to reflect on and make us more grateful.

THIS WEEK: Opportunity Given

I try to preach you learn from every situation. You learn how you could have handled it better or not be in that situation. Each job prepares you for the next job. But an opportunity I have the most gratitude is to Aspen Athletic Club.

They were my first start in the fitness industry. My boss let me work in sales and work whatever hours I wanted. It was nice because I made some good money. I wish I took selling personal training more seriously.

I was exposed to so many situations and personalities. Aspen is a place that I grew so much in both fitness and management. I miss Aspen but don't miss the Iowa winters.

What is an opportunity that you are grateful to have had?

WEEK 15 - JOB

We are back for another week of the Gratitude Journey. Each week is a different topic to reflect on and make us more grateful.

THIS WEEK: My Job

I have had a lot of jobs. My resume looks insane because we have moved so much with my husbands' job in baseball. I love my job as a personal trainer but it's not the job that I am most grateful.

It's my short time with the Phoenix Coyotes. Gary got a job with Arizona State Athletics and while we were driving to AZ from OKC my future boss from the Coyotes called to set up an interview. He wanted to do an interview while we were driving, so I asked him if I could do it Monday because I'll be in Arizona. I could tell he was a little put off then filled him in about ASU.

I went in and interviewed they called later in the day. I was so pumped to continue working in sports. I will be honest I am not huge hockey fan and didn't even know our "star" player. I was also slightly unaware about the lockout and ownership situation. But I have read Ice to Eskimos so I was overly confident.

But this experience was probably the worst experience I have ever had working in sports. I won't go into a lot of details, but I was miserable. I am grateful for the situation because I learned how NOT to treat people. I learned that sometimes people are just grumpy and miserable people, and there is nothing you can do.

I do miss working in sports. I hope maybe one day to get back into it.

What is a job you are grateful for?

The Contentment Challenge - February 2019 - Round 2

If you are new to this space, I'm in the middle of my next round of The Contentment Challenge. Catch up with the posts below.

UPDATE FROM JANUARY
The Contentment Challenge was good for the few weeks then I kinda feel off the wagon. I was doing so well with watching what I was spending and my goals. I can't tell you an exact reason why I just stopped. Mostly work got crazy and didn't want to get out of my warm bed. I did really well on decluttering. Things in the house are really organzied and we have done really good at using everything we have before going out to purchase anything else. I only read one of the books I listed. (You are a Badass) I didn't blog like I wanted to, barely got 1 per week. We decided to put off marathon training due to work obligations. I am not Urbankick certified yet, but spend the time really focusing on Poppilates.

So I am going to create a capsule wardrobe based on workout clothes, everyday clothes with a few dress up clothes.

Goals:

WEEK 14 - FAVORITE MEMORY

We are back for another week of the Gratitude Journey. Each week is a different topic to reflect on and make us more grateful.

THIS WEEK: Favorite Memory

My memory that I am most grateful for is the time with my grandpa. My grandpa passed away about a year ago. I miss him a lot. At his funeral we did a time where anyone could talk about their memory of him.

One of my favorite memories of him is when I was little. He would also check my teeth to see if they were loose. If any were close he would pull them out with pillars. He would do the normal one, two, three and pull. Then tell me he didn't get while I was halfway down the hall screaming. Of course, he got it but loved to be a trickster.

Another would be the times he would take me for a cheeseburger a few towns over in his airplane. I remember landing at the airport and walking to the cheeseburger shop. When I was little I had no idea how much airplane gas was and didn't get why it was called the $50 cheeseburger.

What's your favorite memory?

WEEK 13 - A CITY I'VE VISITED

We are back for another week of the Gratitude Journey. Each week is a different topic to reflect on and make us more grateful.

THIS WEEK:  A City I've Visited

This is a tough one because we have traveled to so many different places with just working baseball but the travel that we do in each town is crazy!!! We love to travel and explore the area because when we leave a place it might be the last time. As of currently the only place that I hope that we go back to is Arizona. I am so pissed with didn't get to Sedona while there.

Moclips, Washington is probably one of the best cities we have visited. We got an amazing trip gifted to us from a gala we attend in Everett. We went at the end of the season and their offseason so it was pretty empty. But it was a BLAST!!

We didn't get the best cell service but it was so pretty. We explore on the coast as well. It was great to be able to get around and not have to deal with crowds. The best memory I have is sleeping with the door open listening to the ocean while having a fire going in our place. And every day when we woke up looking into the ocean.

What is a city you are grateful for?

Week 12 - 4 Things I like About Myself - Gratitude Journey

We are back for another week of the Gratitude Journey. Each week is a different topic to reflect on and make us more grateful.

THIS WEEK: 4 Things I Like About Myself

This is going to be a really tough one for me. I really hate talking about myself and/or things that I admire about myself. I'm not sure why I just think of it as bragging.

4 Things I Like About Myself

1. Super Organized - I am great at organizing and time management. I am not one to procrastinate. When we go on trips I am usually the planner. Planning everything minus the baseball game. In the past, I would stuff so much into a small time now we just make a list of everything that would be fun to do.

2. My Blue Eyes - Most days they are just any normal blue color. Then some days they are crazy bright blue. When I am crying they get ocean blue.

3. Loyalty - I am extremely loyal. Sometimes way past when most people would give up. Sometimes I get burned and get a little upset over it. In the past year I have often hated this trait but it's me. There are more good than overall.

4. Team Player/Hard Working - I am always willing to help out to anyone if I can. Every job that I have had the manager has always appreciated how much I am willing to help out. I knew as a lady working in sports I had to stand with crazy work ethic given in the past most men that the only reason girls wanted to work in sports was to get husband.

BONUS - My body build - I am always underestimated for what I could carry because I have a ballerina build. I have crazy arm strength and it always shocks people. Plus my long legs are pretty awesome.
Took a while to appreciate those but I'm glad I came around.,

What do you like about yourself?

Week 11 - Hobby - Gratitude Journey

We are back for another week of the Gratitude Journey. Each week is a different topic to reflect on and make us more grateful.

THIS WEEK: Hobby

Right now my favorite hobby would be this space. I love writing and journaling. There is something special (to me) about a fresh, new notebook with new pens.

I have had this little space for quite a while. It's been under a few different names and lots of different breaks usually due to moves. For some reason, I would never plan things out during a baseball move. I have been The Fitness Gypsy for about 2 years.

I love this space because I am able to write and just write. It's whatever is on my mind. I love sharing our trips that usually revolve around baseball games but we still try and do other touristy stuff. I hope to share more of my workouts in the upcoming future.

My next favorite hobby is crocheting/knitting. I don't do it as often as I would like, but I still love it. I'm currently working on a blanket but honestly, I don't know when it's going to get finished.

Week 10 - Quote That Inspires - Gratitude Journey

We are back for another week of the Gratitude Journey. Each week is a different topic to reflect on and make us more grateful.

THIS WEEK: Quote That Inspires

I love inspirational quotes. I even have a Pinterest board of all things inspirational. But interesting enough I don't have any quotes around our place or on my phone. So it literally stays on my pinterest board and that's about it.

My favorite right now.

I usually let fear stop me. I worry if it will work out and what people will think. Or I put anything similar will that person think I am copying them, etc. I seriously overthink EVERYTHING and let fear stop by.

My favorite bible verse.

What are quotes that inspire you?

The Contentment Challenge - First Month - Round 2

I have spent a lot of time thinking about living on less. Like I mentioned on the first attmept of the Contentment Challenge I have wanted to do this for a long time. I am definately the spender in our relationship. I also really want a simplistic lifestyle. I want only the bare minimum that I need.

I am so excited to start this challenge over again.

The Contentment Challenge - January 2019

Theme: Declutter
Verse: Philippians 4:11
Activity Challenge: Do EVERY workout this month

I am so committed to making this round stick. I am committed and determined to make this a complete lifestyle change. The end goals is to be able to continue this lifestyle and if I purchased something it is going to replace something else.

My goal is to someday live in a RV. I am hoping that it is sooner than retirement age, but Gary is not having it. With our baseball lifestyle I think it woule be so much better having an RV than living in apartment. Honestly for me a big set up on not doing it is Heisman. Going down to such a small space would hard for him. At least that's what I think but people say that he will adapt better than I think.

Theme: Organize
The plan is to make sure everything is organized and has a home.

Memory Verse: (Same verse will be the top photo)

Activity: I am going through each room to make sure everything is in its place. If it has no place I will either donate, throw it away, or sell it.

I did this challenge a few months ago while in the middle of the move. I did well in terms of not spending much because everything went towards the move and/or the new place. We did go a little crazy with the necessities of the place, BUT I wouldn't change anything either.

My plan for doing this is to set a new foundation for myself. Really think about what I purchase and live a more simplistic and grateful life.

Goals:
Read Weird and You are A Badass
Being 100% devoted to this challenge
Blog 3 times a week
Pay off 1 bill
Do every single workout for half marathon training
Be Urbankick certified

I will post how I did the following month on a Monday along with my theme, verses, activity, and goals for the next month.
